Joplin, Missouri is preparing for a historic milestone during the 100th anniversary of Route 66. In 2026, the city will officially become home to the world’s largest open-air 3D street painting gallery.
From June 3–5, 2026, sixteen internationally acclaimed artists will transform a parking lot along West 7th Street into a spectacular outdoor exhibition filled with breathtaking 3D street art. Using chalk, paint, and extraordinary perspective techniques, these artists will create massive optical illusions that allow visitors to step directly into the artwork.
On June 6, the completed gallery will officially open to the public, inviting visitors to experience the art up close, become part of the scenes, and capture unforgettable photos. The gallery will remain free and open throughout the Route 66 centennial year.
Celebrating Route 66 through art
World Street Painting 2026 honors the 100th anniversary of America’s legendary Mother Road. Each artwork will celebrate the freedom, adventure, and cultural legacy of Route 66, turning Joplin into a must-visit destination for art lovers, travelers, and photographers.
16 international artists, one global destination
Artists from around the world will each create a monumental 50-square-meter 3D masterpiece, bringing color, creativity, and wonder to southwest Missouri. Building on the existing artworks created in previous editions, the 2026 festival will officially establish Joplin as the home of the world’s largest permanent open-air 3D street painting gallery.
